SAE AS9100 is the quality system requirements for suppliers to the aerospace industry issued August of 2001. It was developed in the United States to address international aerospace requirements and is now approved by aerospace companies in Asia and Europe as well. This standard comprises the ISO 9001:2000 requirements augmented by aerospace industry requirements, specifically there are approximately 80 additional requirements plus other requirements and 18 amplifications of the ISO 9001:2000 Standard.
The AS9100 standard includes all the requirements of ISO 9001:2000, but adds additional content to define specific requirements for aerospace manufacturers. Since AS9100 includes ISO 9001:2000 requirements, companies who implement AS9100 are automatically implementing ISO 9001:2000 as well.
